The SLA Student Chapter encourages professional contacts within the field of librarianship with an emphasis on "non-traditional" settings, and actively promotes involvement in professional activities beyond the classroom.

• June 11th, 2009 at 6:30pm - *IS Department End of Year Celebration!* Mary Menzel's House and Patio in West LA, 9832 Burgen Avenue 90034 (MAP).
  
  It's been a long year, and now it's time to party! Come celebrate graduation and Clara Chu's time with the department on Thursday, June 11th -- IS student groups have all pitched in to provide food and drinks, so all you have to do it show up, relax and enjoy. Feel free to bring your friends and family as well!

• May 20, 2009 - Janice Lachance, Chief Executive Officer of Special Libraries Association joins us on-campus for a presentation and luncheon. 12:30-1:20pm, GSE&IS 2nd Floor Salon.
  Come meet Janice Lachance, CEO of SLA since 2003, and enjoy a thought-provoking presentation on information professionals and the field of special. UCLA SLA student chapter is sponsoring the event and will provide lunch.

A few words about Janice:



As CEO of SLA, Janice Lachance leads the global association representing the interests of 11,000 information and their strategic partners in 75 countries. In that position, she has led the reformulation of SLA's mission, vision and strategic plan, created the online Click University, and expanded SLA's public policy program.

She currently leads a multiyear comprehensive research effort to create a shared and evidence-based vision of the future role of the information professional.

She serves on the board of the American Society of Association Executives and The Center for  Association Leadership and as a Fellow and as Member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the National Academy of Public Administration; she was a U.S. delegate to the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society.

• April 17, 2009 - UCLA SLA Dodgers night! - Over 70 IS students, friends & families came out to chow some hot dogs & peanuts, cheer for the Dodgers, and boo the Rockies! Of course the boys in blue won, with a final score of 4-3. Woohoo! An awesome fireworks show made the whole night explode. This event was a huge success, and we owe a big thanks to the SLA officers who organized it!
