| Meetings from 2003 November 17, 2003Meeting Called to Order: An informal meeting was held over dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen in Westwood. Attending were: Kathleen Svetlik & Joanna Weaver (co-presidents); Elizabeth Spatz & Kim Wilcox (co-secretaries); Mary Yogi (treasurer); Mike Garabedian (program officer); and Andrea Hull (technology officer). Each member introduced him/herself and gave a brief statement on his/her background and areas of study. Treasurer's Report: Mary Yogi proposed to change the names on bank account to include Johanna Weaver, Mary Yogi, Kathleen Svetlik, Laura Pasquale (vice president), and Prof. Gilliland-Swetland (faculty advisor) as signatories for the UCLA SAA chapter's University Credit Union account. The motion was S/C unanimously. Old Business: Earnings from recent bake sale totaled $110. Kat approached UCLA ALA chapter with regards to creating a calendar for the Commons for posting various events held by student organizations. SAA chapter contributed $11.00 towards cost of calendar; M/S/C to provide the $11.00 from SAA chapter funds. New Business: Kat proposed two ideas for future chapter events.
A flyer needs to be made for the upcoming SAA chapter tour of Los Angeles Public Library (Friday, 21 Nov. 2003 at 1:00 pm.) Johnna Weaver will supply Kat with details about the event and Kat will make and post the flyer. Andrea Hull will post information on the SAA Chapter web site regarding available MTA bus transportation to the event. Other suggested activities were: Erica Bennett, 2nd year student, recently read a book whose main character was an archivist. Perhaps we could ask the author (name of book and author currently unknown; will ask Erica for details) to come speak. Mary Yogi suggested Bob Dirig, archivist at the Japanese American National Museum, would be willing to give a tour and/or speak. Mary would coordinate making arrangements. Johnna mentioned that UCLA archivist Charlotte Brown would be interested in giving a tour in January or February. Mike Garabedian suggested a possible tour of the Clark Library. It was suggested that a social gathering be held for officers of various GSEIS student professional organizations to get to know one another and possibly plan multi-organizational events. Mary Yogi volunteered to organize such an event for winter quarter. Think about the possible methods for funding a student to attend SAA 2004 conference in Boston, as was done for Los Angeles 2003 conference. Is this something the chapter is interested in repeating? Officers were asked to think globally, 'outside the box' about possible chapter activities and fund raising events. Specific duties for each officer were discussed and assigned. Technology Officer (Andrea Hull): Maintains chapter web site; post minutes from chapter meetings; collect and post officer brief bios, as well as information and photographs of chapter events. Treasurer (Mary Yogi): Maintains financial accounts and treasurers reports. Secretaries (Kim Wilcox and Libby Spatz): Take minutes of chapter meetings; collect and maintain list of contact information for chapter officers (email information to kiwilcox@ucla.edu); submit postings to ALL_IS list; coordinate RSVPs for events; write cumulative end-of-year report with description of chapter accomplishments and events; keep archival records of activities (perhaps ask Keri Botello to establish file in Commons for chapter documents) Program Officer (Mike Garabedian): Help develop and coordinate chapter activities; keep track of calendar events. Mary Yogi brought up question of GSA waiver and possible funding from them. Mary will look into waiver pool details. Next Meeting/ Adjourn: Next meeting (TBD) will be announced during first week of Winter 04 quarter. Meeting adjourned January 14, 200312:30p - 1:00pm GSEIS Commons 1.
