Events of 1999-2000:

FALL QUARTER:

Wednesday, September 29:
The UCLA Student Chapter of the Society of American Archivists staffed a stand to recruit members as part of student orientation during Convocation.

Monday, November 8:
The UCLA Student Chapter of the Society of American Archivists paid a visit to the Southern Regional Library Facility. SRLF is a high-density shelving facility designed to alleviate space constraints in the southern University of California libraries (Irvine, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, and Santa Barbara). It provides low-cost housing with conservation-level environmental controls for library materials. Campus libraries deposit low-use materials, archives, manuscripts, and fragile materials in need of special handling. The 228,000 square-foot building includes a reading room, and space for processing, lending, and administrative staff, as well as a stack core with a capacity of approximately 7,000,000 volumes.

Tuesday November 23rd :
Student representatives of the UCLA Student Chapter of the Society of American Archivists staffed a table, with flyers and information about the archival profession, at an informal reception on professional organizations in the student commons. The stand was part of  Dr. Mary Maack’s  IS200 class on the Information Professions.
