Summary:

The Head of Access Services and Information Technology Analyst Librarian in Drake Memorial Learning Resources Center (LRC) will be responsible for applying new twenty first century approaches to circulation, reserves, computer commons, and distance services. The Head of Access Services and Information Technology Analyst Librarian position is an accomplished leader, skilled in managing change in an evolving technological environment and astute in responding to and analyzing customers (students and faculty) issues and concerns. The Head of Access Services and Information Technology Analyst Librarian is a non-tenured position that reports to the Director of the Library for efficient operations of Access Services and distance learning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Advises the Director on budget allocation needs for all Access Services programs.
Oversees the activities of: circulation, course reserves, OCLC Tipasa ILL lending, computer commons and distance learners as it relates to daily, evening, and weekend desk coverage.
Provides traditional, virtual and online assistance for all learners.
Oversees circulation guidelines and practices; interprets circulation guidelines to the library users.
Oversees the opening and closing operations of Drake LRC including staffing of circulation, reserves, computer commons, government documents and distance learners' services.
Provides strong leadership for a team of support staff, graduate assistants and student workers.
Prepares monthly and annual reports of Access Service activities.
Collaborates with other department heads and the Director to prepare quarterly and annual reports for IPEDS, ACRL, Center of Excellence in Forestry and the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries.
Provides updates to and maintains the library's website and web-based library services and resources; the print management system for general library printing.
Represents the library and the university at professional library meetings locally and nationally.
Prepares monthly and annual reports of Access Service activities.
Collaborates with other department heads and the Director to prepare quarterly and annual reports for IPEDS, ACRL, Center of Excellence in Forestry and the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries.
Provides updates to and maintains the library's website and web-based library services and resources; the print management system for general library printing.
Represents the library and the university at professional library meetings locally and nationally.
Serves as a librarian liaison to selected academic departments.
Collaborates with the Director, Assistant Director for Technical Services and Assistant Director for Research and Information Services to develop, coordinate, and implement staff development workshops and other library related learning opportunities.
Maintains and demonstrates competence in using Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) and other library programs essential for optimal operation of Drake Library services and programs.
Maintains and demonstrates competence in using the Sirsi Dynix Horizon integrated library system and other ILS systems such as ExLibris.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):

An American Library Association accredited Master's Degree (MLIS, MIS or MLS)
0-3 years of professional library experience with multiple administrative duties including library administration, on-line instruction, specialized academic programs, instructional technologies, or related administrative experience
Supervisory and leadership experience in an academic setting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Expert and demonstrated knowledge of digital information systems and technology
Strong analytical, interpersonal and written communication skills
Demonstrated success in providing collaborative leadership working in collaborative environments
