|Due to Kennesaw State Universityís unprecedented growth and increased funding and support for its libraries, the KSU library System seeks a new entry-level faculty librarian who is dynamic, collegial, self-motivated, energetic, student-focused and flexible to serve as our new First-Year Experience Librarian. This position is available July 1, 2018 and MLIS students completing their library degree by January 1, 2018 are eligible and encouraged to apply. Under the supervision of the Director of Research and Instruction the incumbent serves as a member of the Research and Instruction Unit and helps guide the library to meet the challenges of todayís complex higher education library. The incumbent is responsible for working collaboratively to achieve the KSU University and Library System missions, goals, and objectives. The Kennesaw Campus will serve as the home base for this position, but the incumbent will spend time working at all of the library systemís facilities and campuses. The successful candidate will build student engagement and success among first year students at KSU and must have a keen interest in student-library engagement, faculty outreach, instruction, and reference services. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, as this librarian is expected to play an active role in facilitating library use by first year students and building library support among academic partners.
First Year Experience and Major Librarianship Responsibilities (80%):
1. Teaches information literacy and research skills classes in face-to-face and online learning environments, including some evening and weekend hours. The average semester instruction load is 30 sessions.
2. Works in conjunction with the Instruction Coordinator to manage the libraryís Library Online Orientation Program (LOOP), including but not limited to, revising curriculums, improving technology policies, updating training documents, working with faculty to improve program engagement, and assessing program effectiveness.
3. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for students and faculty as assigned.
4. Develops initiatives to support first year student success and library engagement.
5. Builds ties with academic partners regarding library services.
6. Provides research assistance in person and online.
7. Serves as an undergraduate liaison to assigned departments. Purchase and recommend library materials for assigned departments.
8. Continuously updates skills and knowledge of best practices in undergraduate success, engagement, and instruction.
9. Provide research assistance and reference services to undergraduate faculty and other members of the KSU community as assigned.
10. Maintain data reports, and assist the Director of Collection Development and the Assessment Librarian with collection assessment projects as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities (20%):
1. Serve on library, university, and professional committees.
2. Is professionally active and contributes to developments in the field of library science through scholarship, presentations, publications, and service.
3. Work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends at various KSU locations

Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications):
1. Masterís degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program or foreign equivalent. Applicants with the training, ability, and/or experience equivalent to the minimum degree may be considered.
2. Knowledge of current professional library principles, methods, procedures, and best practices especially in relation to information literacy instruction, reference, and first year student success.
3. Knowledge of research methodologies and quantitative and qualitative research methods.
4. Excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to communicate appropriately within and outside of the library.
5. Ability to meet library faculty standards for job performance, scholarship, service and professional development.
6. Aptitude for detailed work in addition to strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
7. Ability to function effectively in a team environment.
8. Working knowledge of Office Suite applications including spreadsheets.
9. Creativity in problem solving and enthusiasm for self-directed projects.
1. Experience in building student-library engagement and assessing that engagement.
2. Awareness of emerging technologies and trends for academic libraries and student instruction and engagement.
3. Experience in networking and building support of libraries among community stakeholders, applicable non-library experience is acceptable.
4. Experience in communicating library value to community stakeholders.
5. A second masterís degree in a STEM related field.
6. Experience providing instruction in libraries or other settings.
7. Experience providing reference services.
8. Experience with academic libraries and university environments.
9. Experience working with multicultural student populations.
10. Experience working with first-generation-college student populations.
11. Creativity in problem-solving and enthusiasm for self-directed projects

Annual salary is $47,476 FIRM and non-negotiable, with a generous benefits package.
Assistant Professor Rank is non-negotiable.
