| Job Listing: JAB Enterprises JAB Studio Archivist Venice, California Salary: Not Specified Status: Full-time studio week, Tuesday-Friday This is a permanent position. Posted: 5/25/2012 Deadline: 6/30/2012 JAB Enterprises seeks a studio archivist for a permanent position with a 30-day probationary period. The person in this position is responsible for managing and coordinating catalog records of original art works, prints, and reproductions; including maintenance of the studio’s database, electronic image resources, and exhibition information. The studio archivist is responsible for implementing and managing the records management program, ensuring appropriate protection of the studio’s archives and vital records, facilitates preservation, storage and ongoing access to these records. This position will provide updated and accurate cataloging records for studio, production and gallery holdings, including exhibitions, press materials, books, articles and related publication information. The position will be responsible for administering reference information regarding sale and auction information, provenance, and exhibition history of original art work. The archivist will: Demonstrate dynamic leadership of all aspects of the studio’s catalog system, including maintenance, troubleshooting and upgrades. Coordinate with the production department for archival records and catalog information for the studio’s database. Manage master works, reproduction and print databases, including legacy information, backlog records and licenses. Collaborate with library liaison for all hardware and software issues. Act as the point person for studio technology needs as they arise. Assist staff in the studio to evaluate, maintain, and troubleshoot access to database and relevant catalog information. Maintain positive working relationships with galleries, print houses, resource and storage vendors, and serve as a point of contact for maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergencies. Perform other duties as assigned. Experience housing fine art objects and art handling preferred. The archivist must possess: ALA-accredited M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. degree, or advanced degree in Art History. 3-5 years experience in overseeing, maintaining, managing and troubleshooting an integrated library system or FileMaker Pro database. Thorough knowledge of existing and emerging archiving and library technologies. Preservation, art handling, and registrar experience. The hiring committee will consider applicants without M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. degrees with requisite experience comparable to a gallery registrar, museum scientist, or studio archivist.
