| Public Svc Librarian Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children's Hospital - Rhode Island The Public Service Librarian working in the Library Services Unit under general supervision of Director of Library Services and in cooperation with Systems and Education Librarians, plans, develops, and conducts public information services, which includes on-line database searching, traditional reference, and circulation services. Conducts and evaluates needs assessments. Participates in study, evaluation and implementation of automated library systems. Promotes utilization of library services within Hospital Library systems. Promotes utilization of library services within Hospital and community. Supervises activities of Library Technicians. Master's Degree in Library Sciences from an accredited program. Certification by Medical Library Association desirable. Professional level of knowledge of library sciences with demonstrated skills in bibliographic searching, on-line data base searching and data base construction and knowledge of systems and services within the medical/scientific library setting. Knowledge of medical, scientific and health economics literature and related information resources and networks. Working knowledge of automated library systems and software such as LOTUS or Dbase III. Interpersonal and communication skills of effectively interact with all levels of personnel within the Hospital and health care and academic community in order to promote utilization of services; to elicit or provide technical and factual information; and to supervise library Assistants and Technicians. Demonstrated ability to plan and provide academic information services and products and circulation services for all levels of personnel within the health care and academic community. Analytical ability to plan, conduct and evaluate a variety of studies, to evaluate effectiveness of information products and services to formulate and prepare related recommendations. EXPERIENCE: Three to five years professional experience in health sciences library demonstrating knowledge of related literature; bibliographic searching techniques and resources; computer systems, health science information networks and data bases to support clinical, research and health economics resource information needed within health care/academic facility. PREFERRED: Master's Degree in Library Science required. Three to five years professional experience in health sciences libraries demonstrating knowledge of related literature, bibliographic searching techniques and resources, and computer systems. Position will be based at Women & Infant's Hospital. |
