Kimbel Library at Coastal Carolina University seeks an innovative, service-oriented librarian to coordinate its developing information literacy program. This is a 12-month faculty position at assistant or associate level reporting to the Dean of Library Services. Tentative start date is August 16, 2012.

The Coordinator of Library Instruction is responsible for all aspects of Kimbel Library's information literacy program. Providing leadership and vision, the coordinator works with information literacy librarians and faculty to integrate information literacy into the curriculum. The coordinator is responsible for developing new opportunities for library instruction by working collegially with faculty in all disciplines. The coordinator will oversee course-related instruction, credit-bearing courses and other venues for library instruction. The Coordinator of Library Instruction will supervise information literacy librarians and work closely with the Coordinator of Reference Services to balance workload and scheduling.

The coordinator will teach in course-related instruction sessions, credit-bearing courses, and will organize and participate in other venues to promote information literacy across campus. The coordinator will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data, assessing student learning outcomes, evaluating effectiveness of the information literacy program and reporting analyses. The coordinator will act as liaison to the first-year experience and to the English department to ensure that information literacy is integrated into the first-year courses as well as acting as a liaison to English for collection management. The coordinator may participate in reference staffing as needed. May work evenings and weekends; flexible schedule is required.

Requirements: MLS from an ALA-accredited program; minimum of four years of experience as an instruction librarian in an academic institution; awareness of information literacy's role in an academic institution; demonstrated knowledge of Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education, Objectives for Information Literacy Instruction, and best practices in information literacy at class, course, and program levels; awareness of new trends in information literacy and library instruction and eagerness to develop innovative models for information literacy; demonstrated ability to manage projects and to work in a team environment; demonstrated knowledge of outcome-based assessment practices; demonstrated ability to use technology effectively to enhance information literacy instruction; demonstrated experience with course management systems, such as Blackboard and Moodle; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong commitment to public service; ability and interest in fulfilling tenure and promotion requirements for job performance, scholarship, professional development and service.

Preferred: Second master's degree in related discipline; experience with developing and teaching credit courses for information literacy; experience with strategic planning; and supervisory experience in an academic institution.
