|Position||Senior Librarian, Head of Access Services|
|The Eugene McDermott Library seeks an innovative, forward thinking, service-oriented librarian to direct the operations of Access Services including circulation, copy center, stacks maintenance, and multimedia services. This Senior Librarian position provides leadership for the Access Services Department and reports to the Associate Director of Research Services. This position is responsible for retaining accurate fine and fee records, maintaining departmental equipment, providing training for other librarians on Access Services issues, and supervising a unit that includes 5 Library Assistant IVís, 13 Library Assistant IIIís, and 12 student workers. The librarian acts as the liaison to the campus police on security issues.
Minimum Education and Experience
Masterís of Library Science from an ALA accredited institution and five years related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
Supervision of staff and management of one or more relevant library units, are required. A record of scholarly activity and achievement related to access services is highly desirable. Working knowledge of an integrated library system, preferably ALMA, and circulation operations in an academic library. Strong public service experience. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leads the Access Services department (circulation, copy center, stacks maintenance, multimedia services). Supervises and evaluates all Library Assistant IVís. Responsible for hiring, scheduling and training for the unit. Resolves all circulation problems. Makes recommendations on library procedures and policies. Completes reports and statistical analyses on data use. Monitors the use and security of the facility. Participates in Library and University committees. Complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, employing appropriate internal controls, and completing other duties as required.
