Princeton University Library seeks an innovative Preservation Librarian. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Collection Development, this position leads and oversees the full range of preservation efforts, ensuring comprehensive preservation programming for general & special collections in all formats. Coordinating input from stakeholders, incumbent reviews and reshapes preservation policies, workflows & programs; establishes benchmarks for reformatting & digitization; mold & pest management and remediation; emergency planning & response; exhibit & loan management; environmental management; and creation, dissemination & retention of conservation & preservation documentation.

Incumbent operates strategically with all units of the Library to devise and update preservation functions, develop and implement policies, programs, standards & workflows; identify vendors, set specifications and establish functional requirements. Incumbent works with all stakeholders, advises on facilities projects and initiates cross-department collaborations.

Incumbent coordinates preservation assessment and makes recommendations for long-term preservation & access for at-risk collections; liaises with curators, general collections selectors & branch librarians to identify preservation priorities and develop and initiate projects, including collection surveys, reformatting & digitization and complex or custom housing.

The successful candidate contributes to strategic planning; works with Library IT and other stakeholders to develop policies, procedures and best practices for long-term preservation of Library digital assets.

Incumbent works with conservation staff, curators, selectors & unit heads to design and present preservation training programs including care & handling, selection for conservation, and emergency response. Incumbent actively leads and participates in disaster planning & response and helps coordinate emergency deployment of staff designated as "first responders".

Incumbent also serves as subject specialist/selector for Preservation Reference Collection; represents Princeton's preservation interests to groups including IvyPlus Libraries Preservation Group and the ReCAP Preservation Group; participates in outreach and development activities and writes or assists with writing grant proposals for projects. Finally, the incumbent contributes to the field of preservation through active participation in professional organizations and scholarship.

Essential Qualifications
*MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library program or equivalent qualification
*5 years professional experience providing conservation and/or preservation services
*Skill in leadership, organization & planning, analytical thinking and problem-solving, demonstrated through work experience in a research library
*Ability to work in a complex, collaborative and changing environment with diverse staff & users
*Excellent written & verbal communication skills
*Knowledge of new technologies and strategies affecting preservation, including digital
*Experience with exhibit & loan management; environmental management; emergency planning & salvage; education & outreach
*A record of engagement & scholarship within the field of preservation

Preferred Qualifications
*Knowledge of the history and materials science of library materials
*Knowledge of digital imaging and experience in digital preservation
*Demonstrated experience managing diverse projects
*Professional Associate or Fellow status within American Institute for Conservation
