Assistant Head of Research Materials Procurement
University of Houston Libraries

The UH Libraries' Research Materials Procurement (RMP) department manages the Libraries' materials budget, the purchasing of all physical and electronic resources, and the resource sharing and document delivery services. Reporting to the Head of RMP, the Assistant Head of RMP will directly oversee the continuing resources unit, with responsibility for acquiring, licensing, and maintaining access to continuing resources in all formats. The person in this position will be responsible for negotiating license agreements with publishers and vendors for the acquisition and renewal of electronic resource subscriptions and one-time purchases in a variety of formats including journals, ebooks, databases, data sets, and streaming media. As a leader in the department, this position is also responsible for leading a team of staff and students, including direct supervision of two full-time staff members and indirect supervision of two staff members and three students. In the absence of the Head of RMP, this person will be responsible for the daily management of the staff and department and may be asked to represent the department at meetings of the Leadership Advisory Council or other bodies.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to work in a team based environment and collaborate across the library to set priorities and move the library in new directions in alignment with the UH Libraries 2017-2021 Strategic Plan. Responsibilities will include tracking trends in electronic resources management, open access publishing, and alternative acquisition and access models to maximize access to the Libraries' continuing resources. A key element will include building effective relationships and communication with vendors and subject selectors about potential purchases, renewals, and cancellations and providing relevant data, such as cost information and usage statistics.

General responsibilities of the position will include investigating technical requirements and platform compatibility with library systems for potential electronic resource acquisitions, troubleshooting electronic resources access issues for internal and external users, performing financial planning and analysis for continuing resources budgets, and serving on the Libraries' Collection Management Committee and Electronic Resources Management Team.
