Responsibilities Role Purpose:
The Digital Archive Operations Manager is an integral member of the Global Media Operations Content Management, Archive Operations Team, located within 10 Universal City Plaza in Universal City, California. This individual will be responsible for operations management, reliability, integrity, quality and safeguarding of NBCUniversal Feature & Television digital archival assets in the Global Media Operations digital archive. The Digital Archive Operations Manager will partner with key stakeholders across operations, divisions and engineering on existing workflows, best practices and SOPs for workflows for archiving, researching and managing our digital assets. The position requires strong leadership, managerial, technical and analytical skills and abilities to ensure maximum, highest quality throughput while also providing best in class customer service.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversight of the Digital Archive Operations Team, leading a team of 9 direct reports
Support daily archive and restore processes, asset research and availability, and the creation and tracking of new asset records from internal and external facilities.
Support daily archive management functions including; migrations, onboarding of new client/file specifications & delivery methods, file validation, metadata curation and fix, replacement and purge workflows.
Identify, develop, collaborate and execute assigned projects within and across teams in the organization.
Serve as a key subject matter expert in digital archive management, storage management, migration management, growth and capacity planning and feature and television asset metadata.
Conduct archive audits, content reviews and have responsibility for the overall health of the digital assets and the archive, including the development and execution of a comprehensive migration plan from LTO5 to LTO7 and other technologies as they are introduced.
Interact with technology and business partners to keep abreast of changes in archival technology, formats, processes, and storage and system solutions in support of evolving business needs.
Develop and align digital strategy needs and functionality with business-driven goals and positive long-term experiences. Work with leadership, technology engineering and the Preservation teams to ensure company assets are protected, accessible, maintained and preserved and to develop long range strategy and implementation plans.
Create, maintain and revise as needed; process maps, user stories, workflows, and standard operating procedures, and work with preservation and governance on current and future file specs and changes.
Responsible for achieving a monthly SLA target of 99.999% and driving excellence in customer experience, data and file integrity.
Responsible for prepare archive analytics, productivity and reliability metrics, quality and reporting. Regularly reporting out critical metrics on a monthly basis to leadership.
Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in managing a MAM system infrastructure, asset inventory and/or supervision of an archive operations department including staff management.
Bachelor’s degree preferred in Moving Image Archive Studies, Computer Science, Engineering, Library Science, Film, Television and Digital Media or other related field associated with native digital, file storage and file management.
Knowledge in Archives and Asset Management with significant expertise in Digital Archives including familiarity with relevant standards and evolving best practices.
Outstanding managerial capabilities; able to coach, drive and lead in a dynamic, changing environment.
Effective problem solver able to assess and adapt to changing priorities and strategies.
Ability to develop project initiatives into actionable and measureable project plans.
Solid understanding of the creation, maintenance and long-term migration of digital assets.
Thorough knowledge working with Windows, Mac OS and Linux, Microsoft Access and Excel, database applications, and inventory management applications, as well as MAM system and supply chain management experience.
A varied and thorough knowledge of film and video concepts, workflows and technologies.
Must have experience with common NLEs such as AVID, Premiere, Final Cut Pro and ProTools
In depth knowledge of video compression formats for archive, broadcast and digital media platforms such as: DPX, JPEG, MPEG, VC1, Windows Media, QuickTime, Real Media, and XDCAM.
Understand file interchange formats such as AXF, MXF, and IMF.
Understanding of digital video filtering and scaling; frame rate and format conversions.
Experience with digital file delivery applications (Signiant, Aspera, Smartjog, etc).
