Position Summary:

Responsible for database integrity, as well as leading technical services operations and supporting integrated library system for Chemeketa Cooperative Regional Library Service member libraries and affiliates.


Library System Support

Contributes to system support, ensuring the CCRLS automated system (18 participating libraries) is operational 7 days/week, 24 hrs./day

Analyzes, monitors and maintains the bibliographic database, including MARC mapping for indexing, index creation and maintenance, and report and statistics generation and maintenance

Defines standards, policies and practices, trains and monitors CCRLS library staff in the use of system hardware, software, and CCRLS policies and procedures

Provides technical information on the function/operation of the system hardware and software modules (circulation, cataloging, public access, acquisitions, booking, serials, homebound)

Contributes to user documentation, training, policy, and procedure manuals based on information provided internally and by vendors, PYM committee, and users

Communicates with and provides information and assistance to CCRLS members, staff, students, and the public; reviews work tickets, re-assigning or performing tasks and completing tickets, proactively working toward customer satisfaction

Serves in on call rotation

Records Maintenance & Coordination

Creates, edits, and retrieves bibliographic and authority records, in compliance with current and emerging encoding and descriptive standards, (MARC21 for bibliographic and authority data, AACR2R, RDA, DDC, LCSH, and other standards, as required)

Through batch record loading and manipulation of record sets, maintains all authority and bibliographic records; coordinates data and authority overlay and cleanup with vendors

Provides leadership and training for library staff in areas of cataloging, acquisitions, serials and electronic resource management

Internal and External Liaison

Serves as advisor and/or participant with college and external committees (PYM libraries group, CCRLS advisory committee, regional/national user groups) regarding policy and procedures, data acquisitions and maintenance, budgets, grants, cooperative lending and borrowing agreements, information exchange, and training

Monitors library staff adherence to standards and procedures

Contributes to preparation of statistics and documentation for system charge backs to CCRLS members, provides statistics and informational reports to college board

Other Functions

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master's degree from an accredited institution in any discipline
Formal cataloging training in AACR2 and/or RDA
Five years' experience managing automated library systems, cataloging, and data processing


Master's degree in a library program from an ALA accredited institution
Formal cataloging training in AACR2 and/or RDA
Two years' experience managing automated library systems, cataloging, and data processing

Core Competencies:

Extensive knowledge of library terminology and concepts

Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Demonstrated ability to establish and resolve priorities

Ability to maintain and safeguard confidential information

Familiarity with office productivity software, typing/keyboarding skills

Experience with Cataloging, Acquisitions and Serials modules of an ILS, including batch record loading

MARC cataloging and bibliographic utility expertise, (esp. Connexion and WorldShare Metadata)

Preferred Qualifications:

Broad experience with cataloging and resource description, and deep understanding of the intersection of resource description and a variety of library systems

Experience with MARC editing software (MarcEdit) and data cleaning (such as through OpenRefine) is highly desirable

Ability to respond to on-site system emergencies within 30 minutes
