Job Summary

The University of Kentucky Libraries seeks a creative, collaborative, and experienced library professional for the position of Federal Regional Depository Librarian to provide collection management support for the Libraries' U.S., Kentucky, and international government publication collections. As head of the UK Libraries' Federal Depository Unit, the successful candidate will manage and develop UK's Federal, international (UN and EU) and Kentucky state government publication collections and online government data resources, as well as supervise the unit's staff and students. The Federal Regional Depository Librarian will also engage and collaborate with library faculty and staff to support the development, accessibility, and effective use of our government publications collections.

Reporting to the Director of Collections, the Federal Regional Depository Librarian will serve as Head of the Federal Depository Unit for the UK Libraries, ensuring that the Federal Regional Depository Collection is well-managed, preserved and accessible. The Federal Regional Depository Librarian responsibilities also include training and advisory communications with the 18 Kentucky Selective Depositories, responding to inquiries and requirements from the U. S. Government Publishing Office (GPO), communicating with the other Regionals around the country, and forwarding information about Federal government information and training opportunities to library faculty and staff, as appropriate. The Federal Regional Depository Librarian is responsible for Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) outreach, public access, support services, and collection development, and serves as the primary liaison to the GPO in matters relating to the Libraries' service as a Regional Federal Depository Library. The Federal Regional Depository Librarian also leads the unit's activities as an ASERL Center of Excellence for the Appalachian Regional Commission, WPA, and Smithsonian Institution.

The Federal Regional Depository Librarian will work closely with the UK Libraries' Teaching, Learning and Research Division to promote effective use of Federal Government information in research and instruction. The Federal Regional Depository Librarian will participate in campus engagement activities that build partnerships and cultivate relationships with key university units.

The Federal Regional Depository Librarian will participate in shared governance of the University of Kentucky by serving on library, departmental/college, and university committees as appropriate. The Federal Regional Depository Librarian will pursue scholarship, professional development and service activities in order to meet requirements for tenure and promotion.

Position is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position.

Combined library holdings total more than four million volumes. The system has a faculty of 60 and a support and professional staff of 108. UK Libraries currently uses the Ex Libris Alma and Primo systems. UK Libraries memberships include the Association of Research Libraries, LYRASIS, ASERL, and the Center for Research Libraries. UK is a regional depository for government publications.
