The River Campus Libraries (RCL) is seeking a creative, collaborative librarian with an interest and aptitude in data, data management, and data literacy to join the team in the Science and Engineering Libraries. This role provides data guidance and assistance across RCL, and supports the scholarly pursuits of the faculty and students in Math and Data Science. Key responsibilities include: providing data expertise to students and faculty; creating and implementing data literacy and visualization programming; building strong relationships with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and with partners across the institution; collaborating with faculty in their teaching, learning and research pursuits; providing face-to-face and virtual reference and research consultation; fostering a dynamic research environment that encourages inquiry, critical thinking, and creativity; and developing high quality collections.


Areas of Responsibility:


Data Support: 30%


Provides expert data consultation and discovery services

Works with Outreach Librarians to help integrate data literacy into research and teaching

Assists faculty and graduate students with data management

Develops and implements a program to raise awareness of data issues among students and faculty

Supports students and faculty using data visualization tools



Support for Research and Scholarship: 25%


Provides expert research consultation services

Applies subject and disciplinary knowledge to foster relationships with students and faculty

Explores obstacles and gaps, and develops new initiatives in support of faculty research




Support for Learning and Teaching: 25%


Works with faculty to develop timely, targeted, and curriculum-integrated library instruction and support

Designs, teaches, and assesses instruction sessions and learning tools

Discovers, shares, and creates open educational resources

Works with faculty to identify and integrate appropriate information resources in the curriculum

Assists students in locating appropriate scholarly resources related to course assignments and research



Scholarly Resources Management: 10%


Collaborates with Scholarly Resources Management staff and the Science and Engineering team to develop high quality digital and print collections to support program and research needs

Continually assesses journal database subscriptions; works closely with constituencies to ensure that library resources are meeting their needs

Participates in ongoing collection assessment and management activities

Monitors collection development funds in assigned areas

Collaborates with the Data and Research Impact Librarian in projects focused on systemic data issues, research impact initiatives, and new approaches to research support



Miscellaneous Duties: 10%


Maintains currency with library functions, resources, practices and procedures

Participates in and contributes towards River Campus Libraries and University committees, meetings, and events

Maintains professional collaborations with River Campus Libraries colleagues and other campus constituencies

Contributes to the profession through active participation in conferences, associations, research, writing, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned



Requirements

Required Qualifications & Competencies:


Specific to the position:


Post-graduate degree in library and information science from an A.L.A.-accredited institution

A strong, demonstrated service ethic and customer-centered thinking

Demonstrated ability to promote and deliver research and instruction services with creativity

Superior interpersonal skills and ability to form strong connections with faculty and students

Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills

Willingness to explore the use of new technology in support of effectively achieving goals with a high tolerance for risk and failure

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity

Strong commitment to diversity



Preferred Qualification & Competencies:


Advanced degree in Math, Data Science, or a Science or Engineering discipline

Experience working in an academic library
