Salary Range: $3,101-$5,476/Monthly (Anticipated hiring range is $3,101 - $4,400/monthly.)

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; non-exempt position; temporary appointment expires on or before one year from date of hire; may be extended, may become permanent.

Essential Functions: Reporting to the University Library Archivist, the Special Collections & Archives Coordinator ensures the day-to-day operations of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library Special Collections Reading Room. The incumbent is responsible for the development; planning and organization of user services provided in the reading room and online for the Cal State LA research communities and visiting scholars. The incumbent will: implement policies and procedures for collection access and reading room services in accordance with national standards and best practices; ensure a welcoming and inclusive reading room environment; provide professional, courteous and timely service to researchers and visitors; train and oversee student assistants on user services and also provides research assistance; monitor the use of special collections and archival materials in the reading room and assist with class visits and assignments; assist in documenting the usage of special collections services, including collecting statistics for user service activities; produce quarterly and annual reports; note trends in usage and recommending responses to these trends; anticipate researcher's future needs and identify opportunities for innovative expansion and enhancement of services and research to various audiences; assist with securing the special collections stacks and collection control; ensure that all location guides are accurate and materials are properly stored; contribute to outreach initiatives including the development of physical and virtual exhibits, publications, and coordinating outreach efforts such as tours and social media.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Minimum of three years of full time library related experience, and/or clerical, or an equivalent combination thereof. Experience overseeing student assistants; knowledge of standards, ethics, security guidelines, and best practices in use by special collections professionals; commitment to excellent customer service and to serving the needs of a diverse population. Ability to withstand activities of the position: sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling or walking; lift heavy weight objects (up to 50 pounds); push and pull objects with the weight limits; and withstand working with dusty materials. Demonstrated interest and ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.

Special Desired Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university. Two years of customer service experience. Ability to adapt to change in a transitional environment.
