The Archives Assistant performs a variety of routine and special project related tasks that support the overall strategic priorities of University Archives and Special Collections (UASC) and its users. Responsibilities include collection management and processing, working on physical and digital displays and exhibits, managing the departmentís social media accounts, and reference service.
Special Schedule Requirements

May require evening and weekend hours.

Education & Experience

Bachelorís degree required. Coursework in archival processing and/or public history, or experience working with primary sources in a museum or archives setting preferred.
Knowledge & Skills

Required Qualifications: Effective interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work as part of a team and independently; well-developed analytical and problem solving skills; exercises good judgment and is capable of accurate and detail-oriented work. Familiarity with software and web applications such as Adobe Photoshop, ArchivesSpace, G Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.) preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibility

Under the supervision of the Director of UASC, creates accession records and processes archival collections to create finding aids. Completes collection management tasks and initiatives, including collection status inventories, record creation and maintenance within the archival collection management system, stacks maintenance, management of born-digital material, and upkeep of UASC guides, policies, and internal reference documents.

Key Responsibility

Assists in the creation and management of digital exhibitions and collections, including scanning images, creating descriptive metadata, and uploading content into the online content management system and exhibit platforms. Assists in the development and implementation of library exhibits and displays, including object research and selection, exhibit design, writing exhibit text, mounting archival materials, fabrication of displays and labels, and installation.

Key Responsibility

Promotes UASCís visibility and awareness across the university community and external stakeholders as administrator of UASC social media accounts, including content selection, social engagement with users and peers, and collaboration with other library and university colleagues when necessary. Manages physical and digital UASC promotion efforts, including fliers, bulletin board displays and online event advertisement.

Key Responsibility

Serves regular shifts supervising reading room and provides reference as needed; along with University Archivist, supports outreach, assessment, user experience improvements, and departmental policy development and updates.

Assists in day-to-day management of student employees and interns. Develops training documents, assists in the onboarding process, and assigns projects in consultation with UASC professional staff.
