Auburn University Libraries invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track Reference and Instruction Librarian. We seek a creative, enthusiastic and user-focused librarian, with a strong commitment to teaching, to join the Reference and Instruction Services Department’s instruction team. The responsibilities of team members include teaching information literacy sessions throughout the curriculum and coordinating instruction-related projects and initiatives for the department. The librarian hired for the position will also be responsible for providing reference services and engaging in liaison activities and collection development. This twelve-month tenure-track position requires professional and scholarly activity as well as service on library and university committees.

In August 2017 Auburn University’s newest classroom building, the Mell Classroom Building @ RBD Library, opened its doors to students. The $35 million, 69,000-square-foot facility, built onto the front of the main campus library, features 26 state-of-the-art active learning classrooms, two lecture halls and multiple group study spaces. The integration of the new classroom building with Ralph Brown Draughon Library provides Auburn University students, faculty and staff with seamless access to the library’s resources and services, including its Learning Commons (shared with university academic support services), multimedia labs, and collaborative study spaces.

Plan, teach, and assess information literacy sessions at various levels throughout the curriculum
Design engaging and effective class activities and lesson plans grounded in ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
Engage faculty in academic departments in planning, developing and assessing information literacy instruction. Build strong, collaborative relationships with other campus stakeholders
Advocate for strategically integrated information literacy instruction throughout the curriculum
Employ the appropriate set of best practices for both face-to-face and online instruction
Stay informed of emerging trends in teaching and learning in higher education
Collaborate with instruction team members to prioritize and coordinate instruction-related projects and initiatives
Provide reference services, both virtual and in-person, for the University community as well as members of the public; some evening and weekend reference desk service is required.
Serve as liaison to faculty and students in at least one academic unit or program; in this role, provide instruction, reference, and collection
SALARY/BENEFITS: Minimum salary of $54,025 for a Librarian II, higher with experience, or appointment as a Librarian III. Rank will be commensurate with experience/qualifications. This is a twelve month tenure-track position. Benefits include 20 days vacation leave/12 days sick leave per year; participation in State Teachers’ Retirement System (mandatory); additional voluntary retirement plans available; health/dental/life/disability insurance.

An ALA-accredited MLS degree or equivalent

Professional work experience in an academic library
Experience providing information literacy instruction to first-year or general education courses
Experience providing information literacy instruction within the disciplines
Experience in designing and delivering information literacy instruction grounded in ACRL’s Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
Experience providing reference, instruction, liaison, and collection development services in an academic library
Experience creating materials for online learning based on best practices for online instructional design
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with campus stakeholders
Participation in campus-wide information literacy and/or general education initiatives
Record of scholarly, professional, and research activity
