Work Schedule:
FT; Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.

General Description:
The Preservation and Digital Collections Specialist provides day-to-day reference and research services for patrons of the Archives & Special Collections and assists in supervision of student employees. This position also is responsible for processing, maintaining, and preserving the University's physical and digital archival collections. Reports to the University Archivist and Curator of Special Collections.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Provide reference services for faculty, staff, students, scholars, alumni, and community members using the Archives & Special Collections.
Assess preservation needs of all records in the Archives.
Digitize, process, conserve, arrange, and describe these records.
Digitize historical photographs, scrapbooks, artifacts, and other archival records.
Create and maintain metadata for digitized photographs, and scrapbooks using institutional repository (DSpace) software.
Assist with the assessment and reformatting audio-visual materials.
Process archival collections based on archival policies and procedures.
Create EAD-compliant (encoded archival description) finding aids using ArchivesSpace software in order to provide access to the archival collections.
Supervise, train, and evaluate student employees.
Assist in evaluation of gifts and make sure they comply with the archives' collection development policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent project management and supervisory skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Familiarity with institutional repositories.
Strong knowledge of computers, scanners, and other digitization, imaging, and database software.
Knowledge of digital archival standards and formats.
Knowledge of standard archival vocabularies and procedures.
Ability to work independently and follow established policies and procedures.
Some stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting of approximately 25 lbs. unassisted, walking, and carrying or moving of objects may be required.

Required Qualifications:

2 years of job-related experience. Education may substitute for some experience.
High school diploma or GED.
Finalist candidates must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree.
Coursework in archival training or history.
Reading proficiency in a Scandinavian language.
