Welcome to my home
page.. .
I
have served the UCLA community for more than thirty years as a professor of
information studies. I am pleased to
have guided dozens of graduate students into print. Interested in assuring high quality
graduate instruction, I have chaired Graduate Council and served
for five years as Associate Dean in Graduate Division. My active listening skills served well
when I chaired Privilege &
Tenure. At the
moment, my teaching interests revolve around FaceBook
in the context of ecological informatics; I am completing a certificate in field ecology at UCR. In demand as an international consultant
on developing information economies, I have traveled to Eritrea,
Russia
(10 times since 1996), Tanzania, Turkmenistan
(3 times), Uganda and Zambia. This
past summer, I was thinking about America’s role in Eurasia as part of an NEH summer institute at
Columbia University and worked in Ashgabat, courtesy of the Turkmenistan
government in September. In the fall
2012, I will be on sabbatical leave.
