John V. Richardson Jr., Ph.D.
Professor of Information Studies, UCLA

Welcome to my WWW home page...

My primary research and teaching interests are access services, especially virtual reference service; government information at the foreign, federal, and state levels; and the history and comparative aspects of education for librarianship. I also teach inquiry and research methodologies, notably historical and quantitative solutions to information problems. As editor emeritus of The Library Quarterly (1995-2003), I remain active on other editorial boards such as the Journal of Education for Library and Information Science and Reference Services Review.

During my time at UCLA, I have been involved in university service to the UCLA community--Legislative Assembly, Graduate Council as chair, Privilege and Tenure as chair, Committee on Committees as well as UC systemwide. Between September 2002 and June 2007, I served as Associate Dean in the Graduate Division. In addition, I consult with the U.S. Department of State on matters of national security in developing countries.

I will be on sabbatical leave: January - June 2009.
