Welcome
to my WWW home page...
My primary research and teaching interests are access services,
especially virtual reference service; foreign, federal, and state
level government information. I also teach inquiry and research
methodologies, notably historical and quantitative solutions to
information problems. As editor emeritus of The
Library Quarterly (1995-2003), I remain active on other
editorial boards such as Reference
Services Review.
During my tenure at UCLA, I have been involved in university service
to the UCLA community--Graduate
Council as chair, Privilege
and Tenure as chair, Committee
on Committees as well as UC systemwide. In the fall 2009, I
will serve on the Council
on Planning and Budget. Between September 2002 and June 2007,
I served as Associate
Dean in the Graduate Division.
In addition, I consult with the U.S. Department of State on promoting
information economies in developing countries and am in Ashgabat,
Turkmenistan from 3-22 June.
