ASIST Movie Night - "Desk Set" featuring Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn

Start this quarter with an entertaining movie about the intial views of how information technology was thought to impact the world via Hollywood in the 1950s. Munchies will be provided.

A 1957 film telling the love triangle between two humans and a computer. Hepburn portrays a researcher for a major TV network while Tracy plays the role of a brainchild who invents the world's most advanced computer--a computer that rivals Hepburn's fast thinking, encyclopedia memory as a researcher!

Stars:
Spencer Tracy--winner of two Academy Awards and nominated for a total of nine. UCLA Campus Events Commission created the Spencer Tracy Award in 1988, which they award annually to actors in recognition of significant achievement.
Katherine Hepburn--four-time Academy Award winner for Best Actress, nominated twelve times.

Emerac--an IBM Mainframe Computer

A 1957 classic romantic comedy set in the research department of a major broadcasting company. Computer consultant Richard Sumner arrives at the corporate research department to prepare for installation of an IBM mainframe computer that will improve department efficiency--but he has to make his preparations in secret. Bunny Watson, head of the very efficient research department, and her staff start researching Mr. Sumner, discover his intensions, and expect to be fired. Drama and comedy ensue. Highest ratings from all reviews.
