About LACASIS&T

ASIS&T's southern California chapter began life in 1961, when it was chartered as the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Documentation Institute (ADI became ASIS in 1968). Known for many years as the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Society for Information Science (LACASIS), the Chapter changed its name to reflect the name change of the national organization, ASIS&T, after 2000. About ASIS&T at UCLA

The mission of the American Society for Information Science & Technology student chapter at UCLA is to promote the social, cultural, intellectual, and professional growth of its members and support the UCLA Department of Information Studies. It will also facilitate and encourage participation in the American Society for Information Science & Technology. It will encourage professional contacts within the field of information science both at UCLA and elsewhere, and will actively promote involvement in professional activities beyond the classroom.

The ASIS&T student chapter provides UCLA Department of Information Studies students with an active connection to local and national ASIS&T members, activities, and goals. It also aims to help students pursue their interests within the field of information science and technology through the activities and goals of ASIS&T and the Department of Information Studies.
