ARTiFACTS will present the Multimedia & Information Technology Lab at the UCLA Department of Information Studies with a gift of two books for the collection (Cataloging Cultural Objects & Art Museum Libraries and Librarianship). Katherine Becvar has made hand-drawn bookplates! Director Keri Botello will accept the books for the UCLA Library.

ANNOUNCEMENT: ARLIS/SC Student Travel Award 2007-2008

March 4, 2008: ARLIS/Southern California would like to announce the 2008 winner of ARLIS/SC's Student Travel Award to attend the ARLIS/NA 2008 Conference in Denver. This year's recipient is Shilpa Rele. Shilpa is a second year MLIS student at UCLA. Congratulations!

JOB POSTING (February 2008)

The Curator of Visual Resources is primarily responsible for the
continued development and management of the collections of visual
materials in the Department of Art History and Visual Arts (AHVA); for
the maintenance and expansion of the computerized database of slides and
digital images; for the full implementation of a digital image database;
and for the hiring and supervising of student workers.  The Curator
provides reference and instruction services for users of the
collections, including AHVA faculty, students, as well as the campus
community and outside visitors.  Candidates must have a Bachelor's
degree in Art History; a Master's degree is preferred.  Experience with
digital resource management software, such as MDID and CONTENTdm is
required.  Must also have extensive knowledge regarding archives
management and art/metadata standards and practices.  Previous
experience in cataloguing digital  imagery, both  still and moving
images, is required.  Must have strong technological skills in both
Window and Macintosh environments, working with software including, but
not limited to:  Adobe PhotoShop, PowerPoint, Excel, FrontPage,
DreamWeaver, MS Access, and Filemaker Pro.  Candidates must possess
strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to
familiarize faculty, staff, and students in the use of collections and

ANNOUNCEMENT: ARLIS/NA 2007-2008 Internship Award Recipient Selected

December 13, 2007: The Art Libraries Society of North America is pleased to announce Shilpa Rele as the recipient of its 2007-2008 Internship Award.  This prestigious award grants $2,500 to support a period of internship for a student preparing for a career in art librarianship or visual resources curatorship. In addition to the $2,500 stipend, Ms. Rele will receive a one-year complimentary membership in ARLIS/NA.

WORDS UNBOUND: EXPLORING ARTISTS' BOOKS

UCLA Arts Librarians Christina Favretto and Robert Gore explore artist's books from the special collections and arts libraries, highlighting collecting practices and historical development of this unique genre. Selections from the biomedical library collections will further enhance this study program. $10 for members; $15 for non-members. Reservations required: 310/825-8655.

ARLIS/NA INTERNSHIP AWARD 2007-2008

The ARLIS/NA Internship Award provides financial support for students preparing for a career in art librarianship or visual resources curatorship. The award grants $2,500.00 to the selected recipient to support a period of internship in an art library or visual resources collection.

The deadline for receipt of applications for the Art Libraries Society of North America annual Internship Award is October 15, 2007.
