The tour of LACMA's Balch Art Research Library, which was previous scheduled for February 6, 2009 has been resscheduled. It will take place at the following time:

ARTiFACTS at the Department of Information Studies 50th Anniversary Event
We will be present at the Information Studies 50th Anniversary celebration on January 31, 2009 in the Powell Library Rotunda.

Judith Hoffberg, Founding Member of ARLIS/NA and UCLA Alum, Passes Away
Judith Hoffberg (1934 - January 16, 2009) passed away peacefully after a short battle with leukemia.
Hoffberg was a librarian, archivist, lecturer, a curator and art writer, and editor and publisher of Umbrella, a newsletter on artists' books, mail art, and Fluxus art. She received a B.A. in Political Science from UCLA in 1956. She went on to get an M.A. in Italian Language and Literature in 1960 and an M.L.S. from the UCLA School of Library Service in June 1964. In 1972, along with a group of notable librarians, Hoffberg founded the Art Libraries Society, North America at a meeting in Chicago, serving as its first chairman in 1973. (from Wikipedia)

Tour of the Academy Film Archive at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (home of the Oscars)
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is located in the heart of Hollywood. The Archive is dedicated to the preservation, restoration, documentation, exhibition and study of motion pictures.

The Mr. and Mrs. Allan C. Balch Art Research Library at LACMA maintains an extensive research-level collection including monographs on artists and specialized art subjects; art reference books; collection and exhibition catalogues of museums, galleries, and private collectors; current auction catalogues; and artist files.
