ARTiFACTS shall promote the social and professional growth of its members and support the Department of Information Studies, UCLA. It will provide UCLA students with the opportunity to explore information issues relating to collections of or about the visual and performing arts, and artifacts of material culture.

The group will encourage professional networking within the fields of museum informatics, visual resources, and arts librarianship, and will actively promote involvement in professional activities beyond the classroom through lectures, workshops, visits to local collections, special events, and liaison with regional and national associations such as the Art Libraries Society of North America, the Visual Resources Association, the American Association of Museums, the Museum Computer Network, and the College Art Association.

LACMA's College Night 2013 is this Thursday, April 25th, from 8:00p - 10:00pm! Come see the amazing Stanley Kubrick exhibit, enjoy the taco bar, and browse the museum's other galleries and exhibitions. In addition, there will be workshops and demonstrations from artists such as Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca and Brick Maier. Representatives from LACMA will also be promoting upcoming internship and volunteer opportunities, so don't miss out! Find out more information on LACMA's site.

The annual LA Times Festival of Books will be held at the University of Southern California, April 20-21. This event is free to the public! May 21st, 2013


SLA and ARTiFACTS are presenting tours of the Disney Animation Resource Library and the Creative Resource Center at the Consumer Products Library in Glendale on May 21, 2013, followed by lunch with the librarians at the Disney commissary! The event is from 9:30am to 1:00pm. Unfortunately, we are fully booked, but we will make an announcement if there are any extra spots!

ARTiFACTS club visited the Western Costume Company. Bobi, the Research Librarian, showed us the library collection, developing costume museum (that is now a selection of costumes worn by famous actors in storage being processed.) She also gave us a tour of the Costume Company explaining what a CC does including storing, renting, repairing and processing procedures.

Our group also visited Dreamworks 2.0 archive where iS alumni Matt LeVan showed us around the archive, explained how the collection is processed and organization. He can be contacted at levan.matt@gmail.com if you have any questions about the archive!


ARTiFACTS is planning a tour of the Western Costume Company on Thursday, February 21st at noon.

The legendary WCC is one of the oldest and largest costume companies in the world. Since 1912, WCC has been truly been a part of film history. In 2012, the Costume Designers Guild presented Western Costume with a special Service Award honoring the company’s one hundred years of professional contributions from the silent era to the present.

There is a limited number of spots so please RSVP  to artifacts.ucla@gmail.com by this Friday, February 16th!

ARTiFACTS presents a tour of the UCLA Arts Library! Learn about this great art resource on campus and find out more about art and architecture librarianship. We will be meeting in the sculpture garden at 1pm by the sculpture of the horse made out of branches and we will walk to the Arts Library together!

Join ARTiFACTS at the Getty Villa on Tuesday, November 13 from 6:00-9:30pm for an evening of art, music, food, and fun just for college students! Take a step back in to time and explore the Museum's collection of Greek and Roman antiquities, as well as the special exhibition The Last Days of Pompeii: Decadence, Apocalypse, Resurrection.

This after-hours event features: 

• Special tours and presentations 
• Free food, soft drinks, and cash bar 

• Re-enactors from Legio VI Victrix demonstrating ancient dress and armor in "Roman Runway"

• Caricature artists, door prizes, 20% discount at the Getty Store, and other surprises!
