Meeting Minutes
UCLA STUDENT CHAPTER OF THE ASSOCIATION OF MOVING IMAGE ARCHIVISTS GENERAL MEETING TUESDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2000 The meeting was called to order at 5:12 pm. Present: Andrea Leigh, Heather Sabin, Kelly Wallace, Robert Dirig, Elizabeth Caulfield Andrea Leigh opened the meeting with introductions of all the attending members. Andrea and the other board members discussed the upcoming AMIA conference, particularly the volunteer opportunities for students and the mentoring program. Andrea mentioned the Tuesday, November 14 symposium on "The Future of Moving Image Archival Education and Training: Building New Models and Partnerships" as one that might be of particular interest to our members. Andrea has posted information about this symposium on the Information Studies list serve. Our student chapter will hold a meeting during the conference, on Tuesday, November 15 from 5 pm to 6 pm. The meeting will be held in the Executive Board Room at the Sheraton Universal. We are trying to encourage as many of our members as possible to attend. It will be a good chance to meet some of the AMIA Board and Education Committee members. Kelly Wallace will post a notice about the meeting on the Information Studies list serve. Olivia Solis, Heather Sabin and Andrea registered the chapter with the UCLA Center for Student Programming on Monday, October 23. They saw a video presentation that contained information about various campus resources available to student organizations. The chapter constitution is on file with Student Programs and our registration should be official by the end of November. The Center for Student Programming is holding a resource fair for leaders of registered campus organizations. The fair will be November 16 from 1 pm to 4 pm in the Ackerman 2nd floor lounge. Andrea feels it would be a good idea for at least one of the officers to attend. The Board will designate someone to attend after members check their schedules. The UCLA Student Chapter has been invited by the Education Committee of AMIA to write a column in the AMIA newsletter. December 15th is the deadline for the next issue. Andrea has volunteered to write the first column, which will focus on our experiences attending the AMIA conference. James Turner, co-chair of the Education Committee, thinks the chapter should contribute a column to each issue of the newslettter. This is a great opportunity to get the word out about our chapter. There was a brief discussion of programming ideas. One idea was to host a panel of moving image archivists from various organizations and corporations. There seems to be interest among the members in exploring the different professional opportunities in the field. Kelly will leave conference registration forms in the student commons and post a message on the Information Studies list serve regarding the conference. The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 pm.
