History

The AMIA Student Chapter was founded in 2000 by a small yet dedicated group of information studies and FTV graduate students who shared common interests in issues related to archives and moving image collections. Since its inception, the membership has grown considerably each year. Chapter members now hail from the Dept. of Information Studies, Dept. of Film/TV/Digital Media, and the Moving Image Archive Program (est. 2002).

The chapter represents a social and intellectual forum for students, faculty, staff and the UCLA community at large to promote and discuss the state of the moving image archival field. It is the only student chapter of the Association of Moving Image Archivists in the nation. Its unique status makes its organizational goals even more pertinent. The chapter encourages collaboration and interaction between the various academic departments at UCLA and desires greater outreach to other interested individuals as well.

It is the chapter's greatest aspiration to augment its activities and programming in service of a diverse community.
