• Welcome Back! It is a new year, a year sure to bring change

Where We Are

(Loren): Used textbook sale- ROUSING SUCCESS

• Thanks going to Lyndsay
• Positive feedback always received
• All books sold in 4 minutes flat!
• Raised $60

• Chapter bank account- Currently >$100
• Closed old bank account due to difficult access
• Received Tax ID from IRS to aid in opening a bank account on campus.
• What to do with the money?
• (Shana) Potentially start a scholarship fund? Or student who represents us at Conference may receive spending cash.

• Recap of IS related events:
• LAPL joint tour a success!
• 25-30 people attended
• Braille Institute tour held during early January
• Example of excellent tours to consider for future events
• Nancy Pearl Event at Beverly Hills Public Library
• Held January 13 th
• Sponsored by the California Center for the Book
• Well attended and informative

• 2 nd RORA training session occurred January ()

• Student to staff- Orlando trip: deadline February 2, 2004
• Plan of action- random drawing done by Professor Lynch to determine which of the ALA officers is chosen to go to Orlando in June.

• American Libraries submission: Michael Moore event
• We need more pictures to create advertisement of what was done

• Student chapter nominations coming up
• Application on ALA website
• Ajit will print it out
• Loren will send copy of last years completed form to Ajit

• Carla Hayden (President of ALA) visit
• Write letter to plan having her do an event with ALA student chapter when she visits
• Get dates of her visit

• Programming ideas
• Panels on publishing- focusing on publishing by IS professionals.
• (Beth)- in contact with publisher Rebecca
• Contact: Cindy Mediavilla, Virginia Walter, Beth Small

• Panels/presentation on student achievements in technology
• Potential Spring quarter event
• Highlights student’s achievements
• To respond to the growing number of students who have expressed their unhappiness with lack of technical classes.
• Contact: Greg Leazer to get information about which students do/have done this type of work
• Contact David and Dorie who have already done work with creating a database as a project.

 

Book Drive

• In collaboration with LAPL children's performance showcase and woman's basketball team

• Tours of Libraries/ Collaborations with other groups
• Look into the Huntington Library, the Getty
• Pacifica Archives contact: Andrea Hall contacted but has not responded.
• Contact: Horn Press President G. Wallace
What day and time would be best?

• Fridays in the evening due to conflict with colloquium sessions on Thursdays.

• Promote collaboration
• Ajit to attend 1 st half, Myleen 2 nd half, and Beth short portion
