Officer’s Meeting

• Kelly presented a printed agenda for the meeting including the
following topics:

Selecting a Student Ambassador for ALA Conference in Toronto,
June 19-25

Student Ambassador for ALA Annual Conference:
• Greg said he still needs to talk to Keri Botello to see if the
alumni association can sponsor travel costs for the Student Ambassador
• Kelly confirmed that, according to Beverly Lynch, the Student Ambassador
should be any member of the ALA Student Chapter, not restricted
to Officers
• Lots of discussion about possible methods for selecting the Student
Ambassador
• Final criteria for eligibility and selection:
Eligibility
• Current member of the ALA Student Chapter
• Currently enrolled at UCLA and enrolled thru Spring 2003
• Never attended ALA National Conference before
• Must become a member of ALA National before attending the conference
• Must perform ALA requirement of 20+ hours of work during the conference
• Must be willing to report back to the student chapter and other
interested parties about the conference experience during Fall
2003 (in-person presentation preferred)
Selection
• Advertise in IS Bulletin and ALL-IS list (send Email out on Monday
Jan. 13th)
• Place a ballot box, sign-up sheet, and uniform slips of paper in
the MIT Lab from January 13-24 (approximate)
o Allow appx. 2 weeks for entry submissions
• 1 entry slip per person
• Must also put name on sign-up sheet for verification purposes
• Conduct drawing the week of Jan. 27th
o Prior to drawing, an ALA Officer(s) will count slips and verify
1 entry per person
o Dr. Lynch will do the actual drawing
Verifying membership roster for ALA Student Chapter
• Teresa will update the chapter website to reflect new members (from
sign-in sheets)
• Kelly will pass on names to Teresa from Emails
• Names of current members on our list(s) will be included with the
Email about the Student Ambassador so people can verify that they
are on the list
o This will give those not on the list an opportunity to assert
their membership in the chapter prior to the completion of the
drawing
General Meeting
• All officers felt holding a general meeting during the 2-week entry
period would be a good idea
• General meeting date/time set: Thursday Jan. 19, 1pm. Room TBD

Academic Libraries
Librarians and the law (current legal issues for libraries)
Recent Graduates
• Officers agreed that all were excellent ideas, but decided on academic
libraries
• Chisa suggested format of different types of libraries (University,
College, Community College, etc.) instead of different divisions
(Reference, Web Services, etc.)

• Kelly asked all officers to review Student Chapter Bylaws on the
website and forward suggestions for revision
