Officer Meeting - Minutes

  • Purpose of phone meeting is to discuss first event for the winter quarter
  • Julie wants to ensure that there is a consensus on the first event and that the group has set ideas for the winter quarter.

  • Julie Glassman (President), Rebecca Bonner (Co-Vice President), and Lena Hicks (Co-Secretary) are in attendance for the phone meeting (start of meeting)
  • Update: Social Responsibilities Committee
  • Tour of Southern California Library of Social Sciences, or
  • Speaker from Privatization Beast

  • Recap from last meeting—Possible events for the remainder of the academic year:
  • Talk by East Los Angeles librarian
  • Speaker Camilla Leary (ALA), or someone of the same caliber
  • Huntington library tour
  • Pop Quiz Night—SLA already had a similar event
  • Rebecca advocates that we still have a game night
  • Huntington library tour might have to wait until the spring for better weather
  • Lena suggests the Pan African Film Festival, which is held every February in Los Angeles, might be a possible event; there might be a film that is socially relevant and relates to our field of work. Julie works with Nikki Goral (College Library) which is on the committee of the film festival. Julie can contact her to inquire.
  • 2nd week of the winter quarter might be a good time to launch first event before the quarter gets too busy

  • Additional event ideas for the winter quarter:
  • Another library tour (professional aspect and social aspect)
  • Introduction to navigating ALA (navigating organization)—this might be a good starting event; the contact person that heads all of the ALA student chapters could be a potential speaker for the ALA navigation talk
  • Focus for winter quarter events:
  • ALA Navigation Talk (2nd week of the quarter)
  • Pan African Film Festival (February)
  • Informal Happy Hour
  • Julie will get the ball rolling on the navigation event
  • Julie will e-mail chapter members after the holiday break to ask for volunteers for the navigation event
  • Julie will e-mail Nikki Goral and CC Lena regarding the Pan African Film Festival (February)
